Reverend James of FolkConjure.com & FolkFaithMinistries.com Announcer for Mystics, Mages, and Magical Places

Born in South Carolina, and now living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Appalachia, I am deep-rooted and well educated in Southern folk practices. My old-world roots are of Scottish and French Huguenot decent, so although I was raised Southern Baptist, it’s not surprising that I had an early affinity to Celtic Wicca and Druidism. However, the mysticism and mysteries of the mountain-folk and conjure practices have always been a part of my life.

From water witching to cutting a notch in a tree to cure asthma, I’ve been steeped in the history, lore, and customs of folk remedies, conjure, and mountain magic, practicing them naturally and fluently. One of my earliest memories involves an accident where my face was burned by boiling water. My mother — panicking — was told to take me to an old woman the next town over to “talk the fire out.” We rushed there and the woman prayed for a moment, made some hand gestures, and blew on my face. Immediately the pain was gone, and my face never scarred. The power of folk magic was immediately evident, and this experience started my spiritual journey, instilling in me the driving force of my spiritual work – helping others.

...
Upon discovering a nearby New Age shop, I ventured inside, unknowingly opening new doors, rapidly advancing my journey, and shaping my spiritual development throughout my teens. Here I met my first teacher, still one of my mentors today, and was initiated into a lineage of Caledonii Grande Tradition of Celtic Wicca and Druidism. I started learning and practicing Tarot by reading for family and friends and at the age of 14, I launched into the life of a professional reader. This set me on a quest to uncover and understand my ancestry and the intergenerational folk methods and magic used in my community. Exploring my heritage led me to rootwork and hoodoo, which naturally harmonized with the innate skills I had demonstrated and broadened my abilities. I am a 2018 graduate of Catherine Yronwode’s Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course. The years since have proven me an adept and proficient practitioner.

I’ve studied multiple energy healing modalities, including Reiki, and incorporated them into my practice to further enhance my mission of helping others. I have also developed my holistic capabilities, completing coursework to become a licensed massage and bodywork therapist and a certified professional aromatherapist. I am a pastor at Folk Faith Ministries.

Heidi Holton of HeidiHolton.com, April 10, 2023

You might have already heard my name. I’m a blues singer and guitarist from western North Carolina and I’ve toured extensively in the US, Canada, and Europe. I’m also a reader and root worker who loves to offer my spiritual services to the community.

My formal journey as root worker began in 2006, when I was researching blues songs from the 1920s and 1930s. I kept hearing phrases like "mojo bag" and "black cat bone" and "nation sack" and I couldn't let it go without investigating. There was something in those words that made me feel like I was experiencing déjà vu, and yet, I had no idea what the meaning behind them was. One day, I stumbled across the Lucky Mojo website and Catherine Yronwode’s writings on blues lyrics. I immediately signed up for her correspondence course and started working my way through the material.

...
That correspondence course changed everything for me. From my very first spiritual bath, taken outdoors in a five-gallon bucket as the sun was coming up, to the very first doll baby I hurled into a raging river during a lightning storm, I’ve felt my hands take the reins of my life and steer me down the road on an ever changing adventure. While my life is far from perfect, I feel a sense of balance and contentment between the things I have control over and the things that are better left to Divine wisdom.

After completing a three-week apprenticeship in 2018 with Miss Cat in Forestville, California I decided it was time to start taking on clients of my own. I’ve helped people with love spells, prosperity work, court cases, and developing their spiritual gifts. I’ve also been a champion of justice, only shying away from revenge work or curses when my intuition leads me to believe there's a better course of action.

I specialize in tarot readings, spiritual cleansing, prosperity work, and making custom mojos and doll babies. My goal is to empower my clients to trust in themselves and take control of their own lives. Sometimes this means looking at the mundane side of a situation in addition to tackling the magical realm.

I honed my skills in southern Appalachia, which is where I wildcraft many of the herbs and roots I use in my spell work. During my time on the road, I've had the opportunity to visit a wide variety of candle shops, botanicas, metaphysical stores, and psychic readers — from a tea house in Scotland to the Divine Harmony Spiritual Church in Knoxville, Tennessee - I’m always learning from my elders and looking for ways to keep our tradition alive. I also teach yoga, tea leaf reading, and serve as a certified sound therapist.

Miss Beth of SolarMoonSisters.com, March 06, 2023

I was born & raised in Ohio. My ancestry was a bit of a mystery, but thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I've been diving into my roots (Appalachian settlers, the ancient Celts, and a little bit of a few other things), clarifying my heritage and helping me on my path. I work as a tarot reader and divination witch as the Solar half of the Solar Moon Sisters. I'm a natural intuitive empath, who is also growing and exploring my physical mediumship, as I offer services as an eclectic and secular practitioner. I'm open to all faiths, practices, experiences, and paths.

In January of 2023, I developed a series of workshops for those interested in learning tarot, which launched in February and have grown exponentially! I am also currently authoring an oracle project that I hope to have completed soon to share with the world. My online shop for the Solar Moon Sisters has updates for upcoming workshops, events, and markets in the community.

JayDee of HoodooHouseDetroit.com, February 28, 2023

Hello, I’m JayDee, a reader and rootworker from Michigan. I am passionate about helping others in their life to find their purpose, guiding them in troubled times, and encouraging them in times of need. I believe that in magical work it’s important to be compassionate and understanding, someone that actively listens to their client and their needs, and spiritually and ethically assess the work that is needed to assist them.

...
I was raised in a Catholic family in New York City where I was taught in the folk tradition of my ancestors. I received my first tarot deck at 16 and started learning how to read the cards. It was around this time that my interest in learning more about Astrology and Folk Magic really took hold. I learned as much as I could from my family and community members on the subjects. Some of these individuals taught me folk traditions vastly different than my own heritage, enriching my understanding and growth. I moved to Michigan as a teen and attended secondary school in the state. As I continued to study and research magical traditions I was introduced to Hoodoo and found many parallels to the types of workings I grew up with, such as cleansings, prayers, and methods of working with herbs and candles. I was fortunate to live in a diverse community where I was able to be immersed in a variety of magical sources including Arabic, Jewish, and African American influences. In 2008 I became an active member of the Lucky Mojo Forum, then took Miss Catherine Yronwode’s Hoodoo Rootwork Correspondence Course and became an active forum moderator where I regularly reply to questions from the public and provide magical coaching and spell-casting advice.

I have strong working relationships with many Catholic Saints, with whom I grew up venerating, and learned about more through my training in Hoodoo. I primarily use the tarot for readings, along with a pendulum and the assistance of my spirit guides. As a clairvoyant, I often hear or feel something that relates to the client’s needs. I have very strong relationships with St. Anthony, St. Joseph, St. Expedite, and St. Michael, among other spirit guides who assist me in my work.

In rootwork I offer services for a variety of needs based on the client’s reading, I believe that work must be justified to conduct it. Areas that I have a large focus on based on clients’ needs include reconciliation, success work, and general love work. I work with a variety of spell types for my clients to address the holistic need of the situation. The work may include spiritual baths to cleanse, lighting fixed condition candles based on a client’s desire, figural candles worked on an altar for love work, break up, money drawing, and healing. I’ve also prepared vinegar and break-up jars, burned with seven chime candles, to break up a relationship or sour people as well as honey jars to sweeten people as lovers or to bring favor and foster kind relationships. I regularly create mojo bags, attuned to the client’s needs, filled with curios, roots, and herbs known to assist in specific areas such as love, luck, success, and health.

Deborah Voith of BewitchingBee.com, March 3, 2023

I grew up in a haunted house surrounded by family members who also interacted with spirits on a regular basis, so I have a long history of communicating with the spirit realm. Being raised Catholic, I have always aligned closely with saints and angels and partner with them in many of my works. I became interested in spirit communication spending summers in Missouri with my grandmother, who although a Baptist, curiously engaged in many Spiritualist practices. In fact, both of my grandmothers owned and used spirit boards! I may have Catholic roots but my spirituality is wide and vast. I believe in a higher power I call God and I also believe that God communicates with me through people of all religious backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures.

...
In the mid-1980’s I began practicing hedge-witchery and learned from many inspirational teachers along my path. I have performed public rituals and taught classes in hoodoo, psychic development, reiki, mediumship, tarot, and palmistry. As a student of Arline Rowden, I became a Reiki Master-Teacher in 2007 and continue to work with healing energy. Here in Wisconsin, I perform in-person divination, rootwork, spiritual cleansings, Reiki healing sessions, past-life regressions, and soul retrieval. I work closely with Saint Christopher for safety and with Saint Anthony for missing people as well as setting lights on my altar for the missing, a service which I provide free of charge. Additionally, I am a writer and have authored three books on the topics of spirit communication, spirit work, and magical practice.

I am a professional intuitive reader and spirit-worker and have been reading palms since 1996, tarot since 1999, and I have been a rootworker since 2007. A variety of life experiences have served to enhance my spiritual work. From 2012 to 2014 I volunteered with a missing person agency to use my gifts to help locate the missing. This was an extraordinary experience, helping me to focus and grow even more as a spirit worker. Also, I am a retired Registered Nurse and worked in triage for 25 years for the Milwaukee County Psychiatric Crises Service, an organization that has the unique distinction of being one of few centralized psychiatric emergency rooms in the country. As such, I have years of experience working with people suffering from trauma, especially through times of crisis. I also worked at the Milwaukee County Jail and the Sexual Assault Treatment Center. These experiences are very personal to me. I have dealt with my own recovery journey from alcohol and drugs, working within a 12-step program of spirituality and have celebrated sobriety since 1985. Helping others with alcohol or drug problems is a key aspect of my spiritual journey.

I greatly enjoy working in-person locally and online with my clients! Over the years I have personal experience with being crossed, jinxed, and given the evil eye many a time, especially when cleansing and destroying the negative and unjustified works of others.
